4 Stocks With Momentum, Value and Technical Strength to Buy and Hold Into Year-End | Investing.com

  • A strong stock screen narrows the field, but the chart still determines the timing.

  • SanDisk, Micron, GigaCloud and Prologis each present distinctly different technical setups.

  • The real opportunity emerges when valuation, momentum and price structure align.

A good stock screen can save hours of research, but it should never make the final decision for you. The most useful process is to let the screen narrow the universe and then force every candidate through a second test: does the chart actually offer a sensible entry?

That is especially important late in the year, when many of the strongest stocks have already delivered large gains. Buying a company simply because it has momentum can leave you chasing an extended move, while buying a cheap stock with no technical support can mean sitting through months of dead money. The better opportunities usually appear where fundamental quality, valuation and price structure line up at the same time.

A WarrenAI screen built around four simple filters produced five initial candidates: , , Stride, and . The filters were straightforward — year-to-date performance above 15%, solid financial health, a P/E ratio between 5 and 35, and an RSI in neutral territory rather than already overbought. That combination is useful because it avoids two common screening mistakes: looking only for cheap stocks with no momentum, or chasing strong stocks after the technical setup has already become stretched.

The screen is only the beginning. Stride was removed almost immediately because the chart had left a very large bearish gap, a warning sign that outweighed the otherwise attractive quantitative profile. The remaining names offered cleaner setups, and the search process eventually produced another candidate with a more open technical path.

• InvestingPro can be used to run this type of screen, compare Fair Value and analyst upside, and then move directly into WarrenAI, ProPicks and chart analysis.

The Screen Works Because It Mixes Momentum With Restraint

Each of the four filters serves a different purpose. Requiring a year-to-date gain above 15% ensures that the market is already rewarding the company rather than forcing investors to anticipate a turnaround that may never arrive. The financial-health filter removes weaker balance sheets, while the P/E range of 5 to 35 avoids both obviously distressed names and companies whose valuations have already become extreme. Keeping RSI in neutral territory is equally important because a stock can satisfy every fundamental requirement and still be a poor entry if it is already technically overbought.

The most important part of the process is what happens after the screen. A quantitative model can identify characteristics, but it cannot remove the need to judge price structure. Stride is the clearest example. The stock may still move higher, but the large bearish gap creates a technical risk that is difficult to ignore. When the chart contains a visible warning that changes the risk-reward, there is no reason to force the trade simply because the stock passed the original filters.

This two-stage approach is more useful than relying on either fundamentals or technicals alone. The screen tells us where to look; the chart tells us when the opportunity is actually tradable.

Replacing Stride Improves the Quality of the Screen

Removing Stride is a useful reminder that a good screening process should be iterative. Once a stock fails the technical test, there is no reason to keep it simply because it was part of the original list. The better approach is to replace it and rerun the same logic.

The first replacement was Newmont. Fundamentally, the company may fit the screen, but technically it was already too close to major historical highs, leaving less open space for a fresh entry. That does not make Newmont unattractive as a business; it simply makes the timing less compelling relative to other candidates.

International Seaways, ticker INSW, had a similar problem. The stock had already been identified earlier as an opportunity and had gone on to reach its target. It remained strong near historical highs, but the entry was no longer as attractive because price had moved too far away from support. A successful trade can become a poor new trade once the move has already happened.

ProPicks Offers a Second Way to Build the Watchlist

WarrenAI is one way to narrow the market, but it is not the only useful discovery tool inside InvestingPro. ProPicks takes a broader portfolio approach, using more than 100 financial parameters and 25 years of data to build model portfolios across different countries and investment styles.

There are 88 portfolios available in the source workflow, and most are updated monthly. That matters because a portfolio screen can surface opportunities that would never appear in a manually built watchlist. One example is the U.S. mid-cap portfolio, which was up more than 33% for the year in the source figures and had produced a historical annualized return of 19.3%.

Those numbers should not be treated as a reason to buy every holding automatically. Their value is in reducing the search space. If a model portfolio has consistently outperformed its benchmark, its holdings become a useful starting point for deeper work. The same technical filter still applies afterward: attractive valuation and historical model performance do not replace the need for a good entry.

1. SanDisk Has the Clearest Breakout Trigger

SanDisk has already demonstrated how powerful the underlying trend can be. The stock rose from roughly $40 to an all-time high around $235.40 within a year, then entered a correction of more than 50%. That pullback was severe, but it did not completely destroy the longer-term structure. The 200-day moving average initially acted as support, which is exactly what investors want to see when a major uptrend is being tested rather than abandoned.

The shorter-term setup is defined by two levels. Resistance sits around $182.80, while the first major support zone is around $141. The resistance is especially important because it also aligns with the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of the latest decline. A clean break above $182.80 would therefore do more than clear a horizontal barrier; it would show that the stock has recovered most of the previous selloff and is ready to challenge the historical high again.

That creates a relatively straightforward breakout strategy. An entry above $182.80 would open a first path toward roughly $219.20, followed by a retest of $235.40. If the stock eventually clears the historical high, the larger second-leg projection points toward approximately $325.50. The more ambitious target is obviously less certain, but it becomes relevant only after the market proves that the old high is no longer resistance.

The downside scenario is equally clear. If SanDisk loses the $141 support area, the probability of a deeper retracement rises sharply and the stock could revisit the region near $99.80. Reaching that level would not be an automatic buy. A better approach would be to wait for a bullish candlestick structure, reversal pattern or another form of confirmation before taking the trade.

For investors looking to dig deeper into stocks beyond the price chart, InvestingPro is currently available at a 50% discount.

If you want to take advantage of the 50% discount, use the link below to claim the offer before it’s gone:

2. Micron Is Similar, but the Risk Below Support Is Larger

Micron’s setup resembles SanDisk’s, although the downside becomes more uncomfortable if support fails. The important resistance level is around $104.20, with support near $88.70. A breakout above $104.20 would improve the structure considerably and could first lead to a closure of the existing gap before the stock challenges the historical highs around $125.40.

The attraction of Micron is that the entry trigger is easy to define. There is no need to anticipate the move before resistance breaks. Waiting for $104.20 to give way means sacrificing a small part of the upside in exchange for stronger confirmation that buyers are in control.

The risk sits below $88.70. If that support fails, the next meaningful area would be closer to the moving average, and a much deeper bearish scenario could eventually bring the annual lows near $37 back into view. That large distance is exactly why the support level matters so much. A breakout trade above $104.20 offers a much cleaner risk profile than trying to buy weakness without evidence that the decline has stopped.

3. GigaCloud Offers Both a Breakout Entry and a Pullback Entry

GigaCloud is different because the stock has already activated part of its bullish structure. The first major impulse pushed above $51.86 and opened a potential second leg toward roughly $71. A double-bottom target was also triggered along the way and has already been more than achieved, which confirms that the stock has been responding well to classical technical levels.

The latest correction has been proportional rather than destructive. Price pulled back toward the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement of the most recent bullish impulse, the first major Fibonacci support zone. That leaves two possible strategies depending on how aggressively an investor wants to trade the setup.

The first is a breakout entry above resistance around $53.71, with a stop below $46 and an upside target near $71. The second is to wait for weakness and try to buy support around $46, around the moving average, or closer to the 61.8% retracement. The breakout approach gives stronger confirmation, while the support approach can produce a better entry price but requires more patience and a willingness to buy into a pullback.

What makes GigaCloud interesting is that both plans are built around the same bullish structure. The stock does not need an entirely new thesis; it simply needs either renewed momentum through resistance or a controlled retracement into a level where buyers have a reason to return.

4. Prologis Is More Attractive on a Pullback Than at Current Resistance

Prologis has a strong long-term chart, but the current price is not the most attractive place to initiate a new position. The stock delivered a substantial advance and then ran into a major resistance area near its historical highs. Until that ceiling is cleared, the better risk-reward may come from waiting for a deeper pullback rather than chasing strength directly below resistance.

The most interesting support zone sits roughly between $120 and $125. That area contains an important pivot and should also be reinforced by the 200-week moving average. On a Fibonacci basis, a correction into that region would represent a retracement somewhere between the 38.2% and 50% levels of the previous advance, which would be a normal reset rather than evidence that the broader trend had failed.

For investors who prefer buying support, that combination is attractive because several independent technical references converge in the same area. The first upside target from such an entry would be a retest of the historical highs. Only after those highs are broken would it make sense to start projecting another major leg higher.

This is a case where patience matters more than momentum. Prologis can remain a bullish stock while still being a poor entry at the wrong price.

InvestingPro Works Best as a Research Funnel, Not an Automatic Buy List

The strongest lesson from this exercise is not that one AI tool can produce five stocks that should immediately be bought. The useful part is the workflow. WarrenAI creates a disciplined first cut based on momentum, financial quality, valuation and RSI; the chart then removes candidates whose timing is poor and helps define entries, invalidation levels and targets for the ones that remain.

The same logic applies to ProPicks, the stock screener, the Ideas section, watchlists and the undervalued-stocks pages. Each tool can reduce the time required to find candidates, but the quality of the final trade still depends on what happens after the list is generated. A stock may look attractive on Fair Value and still be sitting under heavy technical resistance. Another may have a beautiful chart but an earnings profile that makes the valuation difficult to justify.

The best opportunities are the ones where those conflicts disappear.

SanDisk becomes more attractive above $182.80 because the breakout would open a path back toward its historical highs. Micron needs $104.20 to give way before the chart becomes meaningfully cleaner. GigaCloud already offers two valid approaches, either above $53.71 or on a controlled pullback toward support. Prologis is a stronger candidate closer to $120–$125 than directly below its all-time-high resistance.

What Investors Should Watch Next

The simplest way to use this screen is to avoid predicting which stock will perform best and instead wait for the market to confirm the setup. SanDisk and Micron both have clearly defined breakout levels, which makes them easy to monitor without acting too early. GigaCloud already has a bullish structure and can be approached either through momentum or a pullback. Prologis is the opposite: the long-term chart is attractive, but the current location near resistance argues for patience.

The fifth candidate is more speculative because the technical turnaround is still young and the distance to the latest low is unusually large. That does not make the opportunity inferior, but it changes how the trade should be sized. High potential only matters if the position is small enough to survive the volatility required to reach the target.

That is ultimately the advantage of combining an AI screen with technical analysis. The screen can identify companies that deserve attention, but the chart prevents a good company from becoming a bad trade. When momentum, valuation, financial health and price structure all point in the same direction, the decision becomes much easier.
