- US stocks face a potentially volatile backdrop as inflation data and the Fed’s rate decision approach, with major indexes testing important technical support levels.
- The correction is creating selective opportunities, with some stocks showing early recovery signals while others remain vulnerable if key support levels break.
- The focus should remain on whether these technical levels hold as markets reassess interest rates.
US stocks are facing a potentially volatile period as investors look ahead to several key economic and monetary-policy events. The upcoming inflation data, the and the Federal Reserve’s could all influence market direction, particularly with major indexes approaching important technical support levels.
Against that backdrop, five widely followed U.S. stocks stand out for different reasons. Nvidia (NASDAQ:) and Apple (NASDAQ:) are testing important technical areas after recent rallies, Nike (NYSE:) remains under pressure but could eventually offer a longer-term opportunity, AMD (NASDAQ:) is showing signs of a potential recovery, and Amazon (NASDAQ:) is approaching levels that could determine whether its broader uptrend remains intact.

1. Nvidia
Nvidia has returned to the highs reached around May, but the latest price action has raised questions about whether the stock has enough momentum to break through that resistance. After reaching the area, the stock produced two weak candles, including one with a long upper wick that signaled rejection of higher prices, followed by a strongly negative session.
The broader uptrend that may have started in early August remains intact as long as Nvidia holds above its 70-session moving average. On the daily chart, the stock is currently around its 6-session moving average, while the hourly chart has two important levels to watch. The 200-period moving average is around $218, while the 70-period moving average is around $212.
A break below these levels would weaken the setup, particularly if the 70-period moving average crosses below the 200-period average on the hourly chart.
Momentum also remains a concern. During Nvidia’s recent advances, the RSI has struggled to return above 70. On the rally into last Friday, RSI reached only around 60, suggesting limited momentum behind the move.
The weekly picture offers some support, with last week’s candle closing close to the previous week’s highs and near the upper Bollinger Band. However, the longer-term RSI divergence that has been present since October 2025 remains unresolved. The RSI peak is still well below 70.
The monthly chart offers a more encouraging signal. The current September candle has a long upper wick, but the latest RSI move appears to be breaking its bearish trendline. A positive monthly close could therefore provide an important signal that medium- to long-term momentum is beginning to improve. For now, Nvidia needs to recover toward its highs during the second half of the month to strengthen that case.
2. Nike
Nike remains a more difficult short-term setup. The stock has continued to deteriorate gradually rather than producing a sharp capitulation move, and that distinction matters from a technical perspective.
A sudden 5% or 6% decline followed by a strong recovery and a long lower wick could signal that selling pressure is being absorbed. Nike’s slower decline provides less evidence of that type of capitulation.
The daily RSI currently stands around 36.87, compared with approximately 36.63 during the previous decline. That could suggest a potential bullish divergence, although another 2% to 3% decline could eliminate the signal and instead indicate renewed downside momentum.
On the hourly chart, RSI is again approaching 30. The first hourly candle produced a long lower wick, which could support a short-term bounce, but that alone would be insufficient evidence of a lasting bottom.
The longer-term chart remains more interesting. Nike’s key support levels are around $40 and then $34-$35. The $40 area has provided support since roughly April and could become an important zone for a potential rebound. If that level fails, the $34-$35 region becomes the next major area to watch.
Nike has fallen from around $160 to $37, making a lasting trend reversal difficult to achieve quickly. A more convincing bottom would likely require a clear RSI divergence, followed by a rebound that breaks the previous swing high.
For now, the stock remains worth watching from a longer-term perspective, but the technical evidence still calls for patience.

3. AMD
AMD currently offers one of the more interesting technical setups among the five stocks. The stock had been trapped in a lateral range, with the 70-day moving average acting as an important level. A deeper decline toward $450 could have confirmed the bearish divergence between price and RSI and raised the risk of a larger correction.
Instead, AMD has begun breaking above its bearish trendline. The move started yesterday and has continued today, bringing the stock closer to a potentially important technical turning point.
The broader context is important. AMD experienced a very strong rally through June, with monthly RSI reaching 83. That level of momentum made a subsequent correction increasingly likely, although timing the end of the correction was more important than predicting its exact starting point.
The recent move could now be providing that confirmation. The key is for AMD to remain above the broken bearish trendline and avoid losing the 70-day moving average. Within the next two to three days, that moving average is expected to move above the trendline, strengthening the setup if the stock can hold the level.
Even a modest pullback after the breakout could remain constructive as long as the 70-day average holds. If it does, the technical picture points toward a potential return to the stock’s all-time highs.
4. Apple
Apple provides an important example of how a price gap can influence the technical outlook.
The stock previously developed a clear divergence between price and RSI between July 16 and July 28, followed by a sharp correction toward the 70-day moving average. The stock stabilized there and subsequently resumed its advance, keeping the broader uptrend that began in April intact.
However, the gap created during the July 31 decline, around $330, has become an important reference point.
There are two potential scenarios. Apple could revisit the gap, overcome the area decisively and continue higher. That would signal strength because an area where investors previously sold aggressively would have been absorbed.
Alternatively, the stock could reach the gap and turn lower again. In that case, the gap could become part of a new downtrend and help form a lower high.
So far, the second scenario appears to be developing. Apple came close to filling the gap almost precisely last Thursday before turning lower, with the decline accelerating during Friday’s roughly 2.5% drop.
The setup remains open because Apple has yet to break the previous swing high around $315 from June 2, and the stock remains above its 70-day moving average.
The 200-day moving average around $315 is now the most important support level. A break below it would significantly weaken the picture and could expose the 200-week moving average next.
That would matter because the 200-day average has repeatedly acted as a last-resort support level during larger pullbacks in Apple’s broader uptrend since 2025. A sustained break would therefore put more than just the April advance at risk.
The monthly chart also deserves attention. July produced a long upper wick, while August closed near its highs. If September finishes below August’s close, it could confirm that the July weakness is continuing to influence the stock and increase the risk of another move toward the 200-day moving average.
As long as that average holds, however, the longer-term uptrend remains intact.

5. Amazon
Amazon’s recent correction also deserves attention after the stock reached new highs in early August and encountered resistance.
The pullback has now taken the stock back toward its 70-day moving average, which it moved below today. The gap around $262 is another important level. A consolidation around that area could have suggested that buyers were stepping in and that the broader uptrend remained healthy.
Instead, the recent decline has begun to look more significant. If Amazon remains below the 70-day moving average, the stock could move toward a full closure of the gap, potentially turning the earlier breakout into a false move.
The weekly chart adds another warning. Amazon has a clear divergence between price and RSI, with RSI remaining well below 70 at the latest price peak. The corresponding weekly candle was also strongly negative.
For the longer-term uptrend that began in 2023, the key support is the 70-week moving average around $233. A move below the daily 70-day average or a gap closure alone would therefore be insufficient to signal the end of the broader trend. A deeper decline toward that July support area would carry greater significance.
The monthly chart offers a mixed picture. Amazon had been showing a long-running divergence between price and RSI, but its May advance broke the bearish monthly trendline, creating a bullish signal. The divergence itself remained because the stock had yet to exceed its January 2025 high.
For now, the stock can remain constructive as long as it holds above the broken trendline. A sharp late-month selloff that pushes RSI back below that trendline would change the picture and raise the risk of a deeper correction over the following weeks or months.

What to Watch Next
The five stocks are at very different technical stages. AMD currently has one of the more constructive setups, with its bearish trendline breaking and the 70-day moving average approaching from below. Nvidia needs to regain momentum around its previous highs, while Apple and Amazon are approaching support levels that could determine whether their broader advances remain intact.
Nike, meanwhile, remains a longer-term watch rather than a stock with a confirmed reversal. Its depressed price and highly pessimistic sentiment could eventually create an attractive setup, but a technical bottom still needs confirmation.
The broader market backdrop could play an important role in all five cases. With inflation data, the PPI report and the Federal Reserve’s upcoming rate decision approaching, volatility could increase as investors reassess the path for interest rates. For these stocks, the key question will be whether they can hold their respective technical support levels if the broader market comes under renewed pressure.
