Learn everything you need to know about the SK Hynix (NASDAQ:) IPO, including its listing, valuation, financials, ownership, competitors and investment risks.

SK Hynix has completed a landmark US stock market offering, giving American investors direct access to one of the world’s largest memory-chip manufacturers and a major supplier to the artificial intelligence industry.

The South Korean company priced 177.9 million American depositary shares at $149 each, raising approximately $26.5 billion. The securities began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SKHY on July 10, 2026.

The transaction was described as the largest US initial public offering by a foreign company, exceeding the amount raised by Alibaba in its 2014 New York listing.

However, this was not SK Hynix’s first stock market listing. Its common shares have traded in South Korea for decades. The US deal was an offering of American depositary shares representing the company’s Korean-listed stock, rather than the flotation of a previously private business.

SK Hynix IPO: What Does SK Hynix Do?

SK Hynix is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of memory semiconductors.

Its main products include dynamic random-access memory, commonly known as DRAM, and NAND flash memory. These components are used in data centers, servers, smartphones, personal computers, vehicles and consumer electronics.

DRAM provides the fast, temporary memory that processors need while running applications. NAND flash retains information when a device is turned off and is widely used in solid-state drives and mobile devices.

SK Hynix has become especially important to the AI industry through its high-bandwidth memory products.

High-bandwidth memory, or HBM, consists of vertically stacked layers of DRAM connected in a way that allows much larger quantities of data to move between memory and a processor. It is used alongside graphics processing units and other accelerators that train and operate AI models.

The company also owns Solidigm, an enterprise storage business created from the NAND and solid-state drive operations acquired from Intel.

SK Hynix IPO: Is SK Hynix Already a Public Company?

Yes. SK Hynix is already listed on the Korea Exchange under the stock code 000660.

The Nasdaq transaction involved American depositary shares, or ADSs. These are US-traded securities backed by shares in a foreign company.

ADSs allow investors to gain exposure to an overseas business without buying its common shares directly on a foreign exchange. They trade in US dollars and generally settle through the same systems as other US-listed stocks.

SK Hynix registered the offering with the US Securities and Exchange Commission and applied to list the securities on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.

The distinction is important for investors. SK Hynix did not become a public company through this offering. It created an additional US-traded security tied to a business that already had an extensive operating and public-market history.

SK Hynix IPO: When Was the SK Hynix IPO?

SK Hynix priced its US offering on July 9, 2026.

The company sold 177.9 million American depositary shares at $149 each, generating gross proceeds of approximately $26.5 billion before underwriting fees and other expenses. Trading began on Nasdaq on July 10, 2026, under the symbol SKHY.

Demand was strong. The offering was reportedly several times oversubscribed, reflecting investor interest in companies connected to AI infrastructure and the shortage of advanced memory products.

SK Hynix IPO: Why Did SK Hynix List in the US?

The listing allows SK Hynix to broaden its investor base and raise capital at a time of unusually strong demand for AI-related semiconductor stocks.

SK Hynix is a leading supplier of the HBM products used with advanced AI processors. Rapid investment in data centers has increased demand for these products faster than manufacturers have been able to add qualified production capacity.

A Nasdaq listing also increases the company’s visibility among US institutional and individual investors. Before the offering, American investors generally needed international market access or funds holding Korean stocks to invest directly in SK Hynix.

The United States is an important market for the company. US customers accounted for 68.8% of its 2025 revenue, according to information reported around the offering.

The deal also helps finance an expensive expansion program. Memory-chip factories, advanced packaging facilities and semiconductor manufacturing equipment require substantial long-term investment.

SK Hynix is expanding production in South Korea and developing an advanced semiconductor packaging operation in Indiana. The Indiana project is intended to strengthen the company’s presence in the US AI supply chain.

SK Hynix IPO: How Much Is SK Hynix Worth?

SK Hynix entered the US market with a valuation of roughly $1 trillion.

Its Korean-listed shares had risen sharply before the Nasdaq offering as investors responded to higher memory prices, growing HBM sales and strong expectations for AI-related demand. SK Hynix had joined the group of publicly traded companies valued at more than $1 trillion by May 2026.

The $149 ADS offering price was established in relation to the value of the underlying Korean shares, the depositary-share ratio and prevailing market conditions.

A high valuation does not necessarily mean the stock is overpriced, but it does mean that investors are already assuming substantial future growth.

SK Hynix will need to maintain its technological position, expand production effectively and continue winning orders from leading AI-chip companies to support that valuation.

The memory industry has historically been highly cyclical. Periods of limited supply and high prices can encourage manufacturers to build additional capacity, eventually leading to oversupply and falling profits.

SK Hynix IPO: Is SK Hynix Profitable?

SK Hynix is highly profitable.

The company generated approximately $65 billion in revenue in 2025, while profit roughly doubled to about $28 billion as demand and prices for memory chips increased.

Its financial improvement was supported by several factors:

HBM sales increased as major technology companies expanded their AI infrastructure. Demand for conventional server DRAM also strengthened, while higher memory prices improved profitability across the business.

Enterprise solid-state drive sales provided another source of growth. These products are used by cloud-computing companies and large data-center operators to store rapidly expanding volumes of information.

The scale of the recent earnings increase is notable, but investors should not assume that peak margins will continue indefinitely. Memory manufacturers have historically experienced large swings in revenue and profit as supply, demand and pricing change.

SK Hynix IPO: How Does SK Hynix Make Money?

SK Hynix generates revenue by selling memory chips and storage products to semiconductor companies, electronics manufacturers, data-center operators and cloud-computing businesses.

DRAM has traditionally been the company’s most important product category. It is used in servers, computers, smartphones and other devices that require fast access to temporary data.

HBM is a specialized and more valuable form of DRAM. It is more difficult to design, manufacture and package than conventional memory, allowing successful producers to charge higher prices.

NAND flash provides permanent data storage and is used in solid-state drives, smartphones and embedded systems.

SK Hynix’s profitability depends on shipment volumes, product prices, manufacturing yields and the mix of products it sells.

Manufacturing yield refers to the percentage of chips produced on a wafer that meet the required performance and quality standards. Better yields allow a semiconductor company to sell more products without a corresponding increase in production costs.

Product mix is also important. Selling more premium HBM and enterprise storage products can produce stronger margins than selling greater quantities of basic commodity memory.

SK Hynix IPO: Who Owns SK Hynix?

SK Square is SK Hynix’s largest shareholder.

SK Square is an investment company within South Korea’s SK Group. The group gained control of Hynix in 2012 and renamed the business SK Hynix.

The ownership structure gives SK Group significant influence over the company’s long-term strategy, capital allocation and leadership appointments.

Large institutional investors, including South Korea’s National Pension Service and international asset managers, also own substantial positions in the company.

Foreign investors already accounted for a significant portion of SK Hynix’s Korean shareholder base before the listing. The US offering expanded that international ownership further.

SK Hynix IPO: Who Are SK Hynix’s Main Competitors?

SK Hynix competes most directly with Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology (NASDAQ:).

Samsung is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of DRAM and NAND flash. It also operates semiconductor foundry, mobile-device, display and consumer-electronics businesses.

Micron is based in the United States and offers the closest major publicly traded comparison. It produces DRAM, NAND and HBM products and has also benefited from rising AI infrastructure spending.

The three companies compete on price, production costs, energy efficiency, reliability, memory capacity, transfer speeds and manufacturing yields.

Competition in HBM is particularly demanding. Suppliers must work closely with processor designers and complete lengthy qualification processes before their products can be used in large volumes.

SK Hynix entered the AI investment cycle from a strong position. It developed an early lead in advanced HBM and became a major supplier of memory used alongside Nvidia processors.

That advantage is significant, but it is not guaranteed to last. Samsung and Micron are investing heavily in newer HBM generations and additional production capacity.

SK Hynix IPO: What Is SK Hynix’s Relationship with Nvidia?

SK Hynix is a major supplier of high-bandwidth memory used with ’s AI accelerators.

Nvidia designs the graphics processors and computing platforms that dominate much of the market for AI training. Those processors require large amounts of fast memory to move data efficiently.

SK Hynix’s HBM products are installed close to the processor and connected through advanced packaging. The combination allows data to move more quickly than it would with conventional memory placed farther from the chip.

The relationship has helped SK Hynix become one of the most direct semiconductor beneficiaries of Nvidia’s growth.

It also creates concentration risk. Dependence on a limited number of large customers can affect pricing power, production planning and revenue if orders change unexpectedly.

SK Hynix IPO: Who Runs SK Hynix?

SK Hynix is led by President and Chief Executive Officer Kwak Noh-Jung.

Kwak became CEO in 2022 after holding a series of manufacturing, engineering and management positions within the business.

His technical background is relevant to SK Hynix’s strategy. The company’s performance depends heavily on manufacturing execution, product qualification and the ability to move new memory technologies into high-volume production.

Unlike businesses that can scale mainly through software or marketing, semiconductor companies must manage complicated factories, specialized materials and long equipment lead times.

Leadership must decide how quickly to expand without creating too much capacity if market demand weakens.

SK Hynix IPO: What Are the Main Risks of Investing in SK Hynix?

The largest risk is the cyclical nature of the memory industry.

DRAM and NAND prices can rise rapidly when supply is limited, but they can also fall sharply when manufacturers produce more chips than customers need. A downturn could reduce SK Hynix’s revenue, margins and cash flow even if long-term demand remains favorable.

The company is also increasingly exposed to the pace of AI infrastructure investment. A slowdown in data-center construction or lower spending by major cloud companies could affect demand for HBM and server memory.

Other important risks include customer concentration, execution problems and competition.

A delay in qualifying a new HBM product could cause SK Hynix to lose sales to Samsung or Micron. Weak manufacturing yields could increase production costs and limit the number of chips available for customers.

Geopolitical and trade risks are another concern. Semiconductor companies operate across a global supply chain involving the United States, South Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan and Europe.

Export controls or restrictions on semiconductor equipment could affect where SK Hynix can sell its products and how it operates its manufacturing facilities.

Investors in the ADSs also face currency risk. The value of the US-listed securities is linked to Korean shares denominated in won. Changes in the exchange rate between the won and the US dollar can therefore affect returns.

Finally, valuation is a meaningful risk. SK Hynix’s stock had risen substantially before the Nasdaq offering. Strong results may not be enough to support the share price if investors were expecting even faster growth.

SK Hynix IPO: What Is the Outlook for SK Hynix?

The near-term outlook is supported by strong demand for AI memory and limited supplies of advanced HBM products.

SK Hynix expects HBM3E and HBM4 to remain central to the market in 2026 as processor companies introduce more powerful AI platforms.

Demand may also expand beyond AI training. AI inference—the process of using a trained model to answer questions, generate content or make predictions—can require large amounts of memory when services are deployed to millions of users.

This could support demand for HBM, conventional server DRAM and enterprise storage.

SK Hynix is increasing production to capture that opportunity. Its expansion plans include additional manufacturing and packaging capacity in South Korea and the United States.

The main uncertainty is how long the current balance between supply and demand will last.

High prices and margins encourage SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron to invest in new capacity. If that capacity becomes available faster than demand grows, memory prices could decline.

The company therefore has a favorable operating outlook, but investors should still expect volatility.

SK Hynix IPO: Should You Invest in the SK Hynix IPO?

SK Hynix offers investors direct exposure to one of the most important suppliers in the AI semiconductor supply chain.

The company is profitable, has a leading position in advanced memory and is benefiting from strong demand for data-center infrastructure.

Its HBM business gives it a more attractive growth profile than investors have traditionally associated with commodity memory manufacturers.

The challenge is valuation.

SK Hynix entered the US market with a valuation of roughly $1 trillion after a substantial rise in its Korean-listed shares. The market already expects the company to maintain its HBM leadership and generate strong earnings from the AI investment cycle.

Investors must therefore consider more than the quality of the business. They must decide whether its future growth justifies the price being paid for the stock.

SK Hynix may appeal to investors looking for an established alternative to Nvidia, Micron and other US-listed semiconductor companies. It may be less suitable for investors who are uncomfortable with cyclical earnings, geopolitical exposure or large swings in valuation.

A strong company can still be a poor investment when expectations become too high. Equally, a cyclical business can remain attractive when its technology, customer relationships and production capabilities create durable advantages.

The investment case ultimately depends on whether SK Hynix can convert its early HBM lead into sustained earnings growth as competition and industry capacity increase.
